What a fun, relaxed family! I love trying to bring out the personality of the family and each of the children. And, to add even more fun to the mix, they got a puppy right before the session. Is he cute or what?! I can’t believe we got this shot, as he was still for just about a nanosecond at a time. Great cooperation by the kids, super laid-back parents, and their prep with my family guide went a long way. The home had mature, beautiful trees around it so there was not a huge amount of natural light. They listened to my suggestion to put the lightest colored duvet they had on their master bed. We also went outside to the back yard for part of the session.
They may not always get along, but there is a special bond there that is different from other relationships. Interestingly, I think seeing themselves having fun with each other in photos helps them to actually keep having fun with each other.
I also made sure to document their favorite stuffed animals and activities, and things they like to do together as a family, like playing board games. I don’t want unnecessary space and clutter in photos, but always try to keep some of the special parts of the house in the mix. It’s funny, I’m not super sentimental, but my kids sure are. They all look back on photos of things that were part of the “background” with affection. This mom has done a great job of helping each child decorate their room according to their individual personalities.
Each and every child and family is different and I love trying to bring that personality out, not force it to be something it isn’t. Contact me – I’d love to talk to you about your family!
