This wonderful family in Herndon, Virginia was so much fun to photograph. Mom told me that their little guy is in prime cute stage right now and she wasn’t kidding. Eyelashes a mile long and a huge toothless smile. He loves to destroy his sister’s towers and get into her stuff. Good thing he’s so cute.
Big sister likes puzzles and “alone time”. She is a little shy but I gave her some space and did not force her to smile, but she gave me some beautiful smiles anyway. I love letting pensive and shy children express themselves their own way. The following week, she made my day when she saw me and came up to give me a hug!
This mama also really prepared well for her photo shoot. She is super chill and fun; however, she meticulously planned for her shoot by reading my family prep guide and asking questions. She totally caught onto the storytelling of their family. This doesn’t mean she went crazy cleaning her house – there were lots of areas we didn’t go into. But she did think about the activities that were special to her and clothing. One of the fun activities they enjoy is making breakfast together. In order to simplify the photo session, she pre-made some pancakes so we could do some mixing and then go straight to the eating! How smart is that?
For clothing, they are a casual family, so I loved that they dressed as themselves, but she still put thought into colors and coordinating. She planned out the pajama time outfits and the regular outfits perfectly. Usually I advise mamas to start with their outfit and coordinate the rest of the family from there, but I think this time, the anchor outfit for pajama time started with the Daniel Tiger PJ’s – a very beloved choice.
I don’t have enough photos of me with my children, and I want more like these, not just posing for the camera but interacting with them. The closeness shows a special relationship that is exclusive, wonderful, and beautiful. I feel privileged to have photographed this family!
